Here’s how this fundie is making money from the land

The Australian Financial Review recently featured Steve Jarrott, Portfolio Manager, Diversified Agriculture in their Monday fundie feature. Steve is the Portfolio Manager for Warakirri’s diversified agriculture offerings which include the Warakirri Diversified Agriculture Fund and Warakirri Famland Fund.

In the article Steve discusses some of the agricultural commodities and markets he sees benefitting from the current economic environment and agricultural outlook. One he highlights is the surging price of almonds which is linked to trade tensions between the US and China. Beijing’s punitive tariffs on Californian almond producers have created a lucrative opportunity for Australian growers. This shift has allowed Australian farmers to charge premiums for their produce in the Chinese market, a benefit that Steve believes Warakirri’s investments in almond orchards are well-positioned to capture.

Steve also outlines the opportunity for locally grown citrus and berries. This focus is largely due to the rising middle class in China and the strong appeal of the “Brand Australia” image, which is associated with clean, green, and high-quality produce. This perception enables Australian farmers to command higher prices, with the Warakirri Diversified Agriculture Fund strategically investing in these sectors to meet the increasing demand for premium, healthy food options from the Asian market.
